Look at what’s included in the opticians insurance policy

The Warrings’ opticians insurance policy includes a comprehensive range of protections to suit the requirements of most dispensing opticians and optometrists. However, the policy is flexible and designed to provide optical practices with a choice of cover level when obtaining an insurance quote.

The following sections are automatically provided within our standard opticians insurance policy:

Property Damage

This covers loss or damage to contents of your opticians practice caused by fire, theft, explosion, earthquake, flood, riot or civil commotion, malicious or accidental damage.

Business Interruption

The policy automatically covers up to £500,000 loss of trading profit during a 24 month period following an event which may have caused damage and/or destruction to premises or contents of your opticians practice. A higher sum insured can be selected if necessary.

Money and Personal Assault

This covers provides protection for loss of money on the premises during business hours of up to £3,000 or whilst in transit or in a bank night safe.

Whilst handling money on your business, employees are automatically covered for death or permanent disability if assaulted of up to £10,000.

Glass (repairs or replacement)

Glass cover provides protection for breakage or damage to the glass in the windows and doors of your opticians practice. It also provides cover for external signage, fixed glass in display cabinets and letterings or designs on glass.

Employers' Liability

Required under UK law, this covers legal liability for injury to employees up to £10,000,000 (£5,000,000 if the loss arises from terrorism). It also covers legal costs (up to £250,000) for defending criminal proceedings brought for a breach of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.

Public Liability

Public liability covers legal liability up to £2,000,000 for accidental injury to the general public and/or damage to their property arising from negligence by you or your employees in the conduct of your optical practice.

Products Liability

Up to a limit of £2,000,000 Products Liability covers accidental injury to the general public or damage to their property caused by any product that your dispensing optician has sold or supplied to them and which is no longer in your possession or control.

Book Debts

Covers loss of money owed by customers you are unable to trace following loss or damage to books of account caused by perils covered under Property Damage above. The policy automatically provides cover of up to £25,000 but a higher sum insured can be selected if necessary.

Goods in Transit

Standard cover provides £2,500 of protection against loss or damage of your stock in transit. A higher sum can be insured if necessary.

The following insurance covers can be arranged as additions if you should require them:

Terrorism

Extra cover to insure against damage caused by an act of terrorism.

All Risks

All risks cover provides an alternative to insuring individual machinery in your optician against specific perils included under the Property Damage section. Instead this provides a wider level of cover for accidental loss or damage.

The above is purely a brief summary of the protections available under the Warrings opticians insurance policy. The summary does not constitute an insurance policy nor contain the full terms and conditions of insurance cover nor limitations or exclusions under the policy and should not be relied upon as such to be representative of the cover we may eventually provide under a contract of insurance. Full policy wordings and a more detailed summary of cover are available upon request directly from a Warrings insurance representative.
